Rob Olver - Candidate for the Senate

Rob’s passion for his home state makes him a perfect Senate candidate for WA. If elected, he will work to ensure that WA benefits from all legislation.

Rob has worked in Perth, Albany, Newman and Tom Price as a qualified Veterinary Surgeon for over 15 years.

As an accomplished landscape photographer, he has published two coffee table books on Western Australia through the University of Western Australia Press. His photographs have featured in internationally recognised publications like Australian Geographic and Landscope. He is also a small business owner having opened a photography gallery in North Perth in 2006.

Rob has had a longstanding interest in the environment and other related issues like fuel and energy. He believes Australia needs change NOW to address crucial issues like greenhouse pollution and the looming worldwide oil production peak.

He is also concerned about education in Australia, particularly tertiary education which burdens students with outrageously high HECS debts. This, coupled to high housing prices nationwide has left a whole generation with reduced prospects of owning their own home. Rob would like to see Australia’s occupation of Iraq end and a negotiated political solution sought to that conflict. Rob believes passionately that Australia is now at a crossroads and its government and society needs to make significant changes to become truly sustainable, tolerant and equitable.

Rob was born in Durban, South Africa in 1968 and emigrated to Australia with his family in 1983. He became an Australian citizen in 1986. Rob completed his Veterinary studies at Murdoch University in 1991. He has had an interest in politics for many years and has been an active Australian Democrat member for 7 years.
